The Exquisite Book: About This Project

The Exquisite Book is an online flip-flap book. A genre of publishing generally reserved for children’s books, our favorite traditional example is this stunning example by Sara Ball (Germany, Ars Edition: 1985).

The compelling thing about this format is the interchangeability. It’s the ‘choose your own adventure’ of exquisite corpse drawings. As an organization dedicated to creating art collaborations that transcend time and space, we first got excited about the possibilities for this format in 2019, and published a small run of artists books featuring several different artists working from the same template.

Unlike the original books that inspired this project, this book is an ever-expanding, growing organism. New artwork is accepted on a rolling basis, from artists all over the world and from all walks of life. The book is updated with new work four times each year.
